Mining in Ghana

Ghana's history with mining dates back to pre-colonial times, and it has been a major contributor to the country's economy since independence. Ghana is rich in gold, diamonds, bauxite, and manganese. Mining contributes about 5.7% to Ghana's GDP and makes up 40% of the country's exports.

Operations

Ghana currently produces about 500,000 carats of rough diamonds annually. This is made up of mixed parcels. The Company acquires its rough diamonds mainly from the private diamond winners which include individual small-scale diamond mining companies.

Ghana's geological landscape teems with diverse mineral resources with the commercially exploited ones being gold, diamond, manganese and bauxite. In 2021, gold accounted for 96.98 per cent of gross mineral revenue while the respective shares of manganese, bauxite and diamond were 2.57 per cent, 0.42 per cent and 0.03 per cent.
